However, <br /> <br />the entire area represented by stock ownership in the present <br /> <br />system could not be served by this plan and the project should <br /> <br />be limited to the area below Harvey Gap. <br /> <br />Under either plan there would be greater assurance of an <br /> <br />adequate water supply each year, enabling the irrigator to <br /> <br />plan his farming operations on a long tiQe basis instead of <br /> <br />from season to season as at present, with farming gaged to <br /> <br />the prospective water supply each spring. <br /> <br />The assured supply would permit of raising a greater per- <br /> <br />centage of the higher valued crops which require water throughout <br /> <br />the season. The supplemental water would result in an increase <br /> <br />in the gross value of crops, estimated at $13 per acre per year. <br /> <br />~ith the Rifle Gap Plan, the irrigated area would be increased <br /> <br />67~, with project crop production about doubled. Present farmers <br /> <br />with inadequate areas of irrigated land, and v'ith spare land <br /> <br />available may increase their irrigated area. An opportunity <br /> <br />would be afforded to provide farms for the younger generation <br /> <br />on the project. <br /> <br />70 <br />
