Two mines at the head of the Gap have been worked at

various times. One, east of Rifle Creek and known as the Rauman

mine, is on vacant Government land. The lease has reverted to

the Government and the land has been withdrawn for reclamation

purposes by the Bureau. The second mine, known as the Bulkey

mine, is west of Rifle Creek on a 40-acre tract owned by Ora Estes.

This mine has not been worked commercially for about 20 years.

The only active coal mine is that operated by Harvey

Zieseniss, referred to above, and located in the southwest

quarter of the northwest quarter of Section 7. T. 5 S., R. 92 W.

which is leased from the Government. The present mine workings

are above the water level proposed for the reservoir but part of

the tipple would be in the reservoir. This lease expires August 6.

1943, but the ovmer has the right of renewal. He has agreed to

cancellation of his lease for a consideration.
