C')

,-....,

..,

Improved Service to Rifle Valley Lands

Owners of Rifle Valley canals below Rifle Gap have been

contacted to determine their desires regarding better regula-

tion of their supplies and their need for additional water.

They were asked also whether they would be willing to help defray

the cost of Rifle Gap Reservoir if given an improved water supply.

Owners of the older upstream rights and those near the mouth

of Rifle Creek, who are supplied largely from return flow, state

that they have a satisfactory supply at all times and that they

would not be interested in Rifle Gap Reservoir to the extent of

helping to pay for it. They believe, however, that the reservoir

would perform a useful service by eliminating the mud and sand

which now interfere at times with irrigation. All of those

interviewed would like to have the reservoir built.

The owner of the Davie Ditch, who owns 650 acres of irrigable

land, is interested in securing additional water and is willing

to participate in paying for Rifle Gap Reservoir. This ditch

now receives very little ~~ter in dry years. Irrigable lands

under it total about 800 acres and are of excellent quality.

53
