L;

:'!

~~

Rifle Valley Canals

Ten canals with rights prior to that of Grass Valley Ditch

would have to be served from Rifle Gap Reservoir. Rifle Gap

Reservoir would be operated in such a manner as to provide the

same supply as in the past for all Rifle ditches both as to

quantity and distribution up to the limit of their decreed

rights. In determining the releases from Rifle Gap Reservoir

necessary to meet this demand use has been made of the

unusually complete records kept by the state of the diversions

of these ditches and account has also been taken of redivertible

return flows of Rifle Creek.

Rifle Canyon Canal, one of the principal ditches below

Rifle Gap Reservoir, was recently decreed a right to divert 10

second-feet from Rifle Creek during the winter. As this

right would be exercised only for filling cisterns and stock

ponds the canal would be operated not to exceed three times

during a winter for periods not exceeding five days each.

Winter draft for this canal would therefore be small. Total

winter releases required from Rifle Reservoir for this canal

49
