The unit
would regulate the flows of Cement Creek for municipal and domestic water
use, recreation, and fish. Approximately 2,000 acre-feet of municipal
and domestic water would be provided for use near Crested Butte to meet
estimated requirements of new residential developments.

~cJ~.

/.",.

Deep snow blankets the town of Crested Butte. Crested Butte
Mountain is in the background.

Flows of Cement Creek would be regulated in Cement Creek Reservoir,
Which would be located on the stream in the Gunnison National Forest
about 26 miles north of the city of GUllilison. The municipal and domes-
tic water could be made available in or below the reservoir or, by ex-
change for reservoir water provided to users downstream, it could be made
available on Slate Creek or East River above the confluence of Cement
Creek. Facilities for diversion, distribution, and treatment of the
water would be the responsibility of the water users. At the reservoir a
fishery would be created and specific recreational facilities would be
constructed, Flows would be maintained below the reservoir to sustain
the stream fishery.

22
