<br />to <br />'::J <br />co <br />-4 <br /> <br />CHAPTER IV <br /> <br />EAST RIVER UNIT <br /> <br />Plan of Development <br /> <br />The East River Unit would be located in the East and Slate River <br />drainages between the communities of Crested Butte and Almont. The unit <br />would regulate the flows of Cement Creek for municipal and domestic water <br />use, recreation, and fish. Approximately 2,000 acre-feet of municipal <br />and domestic water would be provided for use near Crested Butte to meet <br />estimated requirements of new residential developments. <br /> <br /> <br />~cJ~. <br /> <br />/.",. <br /> <br />Deep snow blankets the town of Crested Butte. Crested Butte <br />Mountain is in the background. <br /> <br />Flows of Cement Creek would be regulated in Cement Creek Reservoir, <br />Which would be located on the stream in the Gunnison National Forest <br />about 26 miles north of the city of GUllilison. The municipal and domes- <br />tic water could be made available in or below the reservoir or, by ex- <br />change for reservoir water provided to users downstream, it could be made <br />available on Slate Creek or East River above the confluence of Cement <br />Creek. Facilities for diversion, distribution, and treatment of the <br />water would be the responsibility of the water users. At the reservoir a <br />fishery would be created and specific recreational facilities would be <br />constructed, Flows would be maintained below the reservoir to sustain <br />the stream fishery. <br /> <br />22 <br />
