<br />CD <br />00 <br />If) <br />...., <br /> <br />CHAPTER I <br /> <br />GENERAL INFORMATION <br /> <br />Project Setting <br /> <br />The area studied for this report is the Upper Gunnison River Basin <br />of west-central Colorado, a part of the Upper Colorado River Basin. The <br />area includes portions of Gunnison and Saguache Counties along the Gunni- <br />son River and its tributaries above Blue Mesa Reservoir. The town of <br />Gunnison is the seat of Gunnison County and is the major trade center <br />wi thin the area. Trade centers outside the study area include Montrose <br />67 miles west and Salida 65 miles east of Gunnison. Small communities <br />within the area include Sargents, Crested Butte, Parlin, Almont, Pitkin, <br />and Doyleville. Western State College of Colorado, located in Gunnison, <br />is a 4-year coeducational institution with an enrollment of about 3,000 <br />students. <br /> <br /> <br />The campus of Western State College.
