Ttt~ development of this plan wiJl resolve potential <br />con-Plic-:.s be~;Jee.!l fut:iJre water develooment in the platte Basin and <br />the p=otect:ion of '>!hooping cr-a_l1es, bald eagles, leas.t te..->-ns,' and <br />piping plovers una.er the Fede..---al Enc.angered Species Act. <br /> <br />since ~983, the Bureau of Reclamation and the Pish and wil~ife <br />Se=7~ce, ~,d a ~~~ of non-!ede-~l entities (states of Colorado, <br />Wyoming, Nebraska, ;.;ater developllle!lt interests, National Audubon <br />Socie~!, National Wildlife Federation, Platte River WhoopL'1g C::ane <br />Hawte:Jance Tr-'.lst, and others) have been participating in an effort <br />to develop a ha~itat ~anageme.nt plan for the platte P~ver. The <br />federal participation has been previously funded out of <br />approp::iations for federal w~te= project planning studies (Narrow <br />Study in Colorado and Prairie Bend Study in Nebraska) that are now <br />co:r:pleted. Specific funding for the Joint Manag=ent Study is needed <br />for 7192 ($350,000). <br /> <br />To ens=e successful completion of t-l-;s effort, ,.-e are asking fa!:' an <br />:<:::92 appropr.:.ation of $350,000 to the USFWS fer the Pla.tte Rive!:' <br />Manag€.!llent Joint study.
