<br />I~HAT IS THE NARRO~is UNIT?
<br />
<br />The NarrotlS ~nlt isa plan for development and conservation of
<br />water and land resources ,in the Colorado portion of the South Platte
<br />River Basin. The plan has been prepared by the Bureau of Reclamation
<br />at the request,.and with the assistance, of the State of Colorado, the
<br />Lcwer South Platte W<1ter Conservancy District (lSPWCD) , and the Central
<br />Colorado Water Conservancy District (CCWCD). The unit was authorized
<br />for construction and operation by the Congress under Public law 91~389
<br />on August 28, 1970. , . '
<br />
<br />The plan of development provides for: (a) construction of the
<br />Narrows Dam and Reservoir for multiple-purpose water storage, (b)
<br />incorporation of the existing nearby Jackson Reservoir for project lise, .
<br />(c) ac~uisition ,of 1 ands for recreation and fish and wildlife purposes,
<br />and (d) 'construction of facilities speCifically for the recreation and
<br />fish-wildlife programs. .

<br />The Narrows Dam site across the South Platte River is about 7 miles
<br />upstream (west) from Fort Morgan. Colorado, and about 70 ilirllne miles
<br />downstream (northeast) from Denver. ,Jackson Lake is located on the
<br />north side and above the top of the flood pool of the Narrows Reservoir.
<br />
<br />No Federal construct ion of cana 1 s, 1 atera 1 s, or other water conveyance
<br />facilities is planned as part of the unit. Supplemental irrigation water
<br />will be released through the dam int01the South Platte River for subsequent
<br />diversion by existing irrigation facilities. A special outlet will be
<br />provided through the dam to deliver water to the Fort Morgan Canal to
<br />replace diversion and conveyance facilities inundated by the reservoir.

<br />\iHAT WILL THE UNIT DO?
<br />
<br />The Narrows Unit will serve multiple' purposes. It will supply
<br />supplemental irrigation water, provid~ flood control, increase recreational
<br />opportunities, and mitigate and rmhance fish and wildlife resources.
<br />
<br />, Storage I~ater will be released as necessary from the reservoir to
<br />supplement'the irrigation supplies within the irrigated service area of
<br />the LOl-lei" South Platte Water Conservancy District and furnished by
<br />exchange to the Central .Colorado Water Conservancy District. This
<br />i;upp 1 ementa 'I i rrigat ion water is estimated to average 119,400 acre-feet
<br />annua 11y.
