1996, from 3 miles upstream from the diversion to 1.5 miles downstream from
the diversion. Fish caught during this trip were marked as described above.
On September 16, UDWR completed a sampling trip to look for marked fish. No
marked fish were found to move upstream or downstream past the Tusher
Diversion, but this was likely due to the limited sampling completed.
Information from the three electrofishing surveys is presented in Table 1.

Table 1.

Adult fish collected on the Green River upstream, downstream and
at the Tusher diversion plunge pool; 1995 and 1996.

6/95 CS FM BH WE CP CC CH GS BCR
upstream 4 42 2
@ TO 3
Downstrea 9 20 3 2
m
8/96 CS FM BH WE CP CC CH GS BCR
Upstream 1 7 3 15 10
@ TO 5 1 6 1 20
Downstrea 1 4 4 6 17
m
9/96 CS FM BH WE CP CC CH GS BCR
upstream 2 13 1 14 3 1 .
@ TO 4 6 6 9 20
Downstrea 1 7 1 1 11 21 2 2
m

To assess the drift of larval fish through the diversion canal into the power
facilities and the irrigated fields, UDWR began setting larval drift nets in
the canal on July 13, 1996 and in the main channel downstream from the
diversion beginning on July 24, 1996. Sampling continued through:-August 23,
1996. One net was set in the canal and two in the main channel for 1 to 2
hours at 0630 daily. Also, three nets were set daily at 0600 at a site 7
miles upstream as part of the final year of the 5-year Flaming Gorge study.

Few fish of any species were collected from the drift nets. Out of 42
sampling days, no fish were collected on 23 days. There were no endangered
fish collected in the drift nets set in the canal or main channel downstream
from the diversion. However, some "native sucker larvae and speckled dace were
collected in the canal and main channel. The following larval fish were
caught: within the canal - 52 red shiner, 7 suckers, 6 speckled dace, and 1
channel catfish and within the main channel - 24 red shiner, 3 suckers, 5
speckled dace, and 1 channel catfish. The Flaming Gorge data is not yet
available. Timing the drifting larvae and greater intensity may have produced
more larval fish.

As part of the UDWR's involvement in the Basinwide monitoring program for
razorback suckers, flooded tributary mouths were sampled with light traps
during the months of May and June 1996. At the "near Green River, UT" site we
sampled habitats which bracketed Tusher Diversion. Those. weekly samples which
have not been fully analyzed may offer an additional piece of information in
determining if larval fish are entrained in the Tusher Wash Diversion Canal.

Tusher 2
