Study Background/Rationale and Hypotheses:

Bac:karound
Tusher Wash Diversion is located 8 miles north of the City of Green River,
Utah, on the Green River. The diversion was constructed in 1906. The
original structure was constructed of wood cribbing filled with rock. Over
the years portions of the structure have been rebuilt with a concrete cap.
Fish passage at the structure has been a question since the late 1970's when
discussions began between the owners of the Dam and Fish and Wildlife Service.
During the early 1980's the Service conducted several studies in the area
related to fish passage and entrainment of larval fish in the then proposed
upgrading of the pumping and generating facilities which are project features.
In 1996, a study was initiated to gather information on the Tusher Wash
Diversion structure, reevaluate previous work, determine if the structure is a
barrier to fish movement, and to determine if the larval entrainment is an
issue in light of more recent information on Colorado squawfish and razorback
sucker spawning and drift.

In 1995, UDWR conducted one electrofishing trip from Swasey's Rapid, 4 miles
upstream from the diversion, to Green River State Park, 8 miles downstream
from the diversion. All fish collected upstream from the diversion were
marked with a clip on the upper lobe of the caudal fin, all fish downstream
were clipped on the lower caudal lobe. Another trip was completed in August

Tusher 1
