, '

diversion requirements of an improved distribution system would provide
additional power generation benefits. The PVID has indicated an interest in
rehabilitating their entire distribution system under a program similar to
Reclamation's Small Reclamation Projects Act (Public Law 84-984, as amended).

Following transmittal of a Regional Director's report to Con9ress and authori-
zation of the unit for construction, advance planning studies will begin.
Costs and designs will be refined; and operation, maintenance, and repayment
contracts will be negotiated and signed with the PVID.

Assuming Congress authorized construction of the unit in 1985 following
detailed studies, construction could begin in 1989, using current procedures
and would probably be complete by 1995. Monitoring of system salt loads
would continue throughout advance planning and during and after construc-
tion to determine effectiveness of the plan.

C I' r, 9 '.1 4
~ ,J'- /..,;

ii
