The Council is pleased that the Secretary <br /> <br />of the Interior formally submitted the completed planning report <br />and final environmental impact statement on stage I of the Uinta <br />Basin Unit to the Office of Management and Budget for advice and <br /> <br />consideration. The council recommends that Interior continue its <br /> <br />efforts to get authorization of the unit for construction. <br /> <br />San Juan River - Hammond Unit. The Council recommends that <br /> <br />Reclamation continue planning activities in cooperation with USDA <br />to further define the salt load source and salt load reduction <br /> <br />potential in the San Juan River Unit. The Council looks forward to <br />receipt of the draft planning report and environmental impact <br /> <br />statement. <br /> <br />Price-San Rafael Rivers Unit. The Council is pleased that the <br /> <br />Draft Plan/Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been released <br /> <br />and public hearings conducted. <br /> <br />The Council urges cooperative <br /> <br />effort between Reclamation, SCS, FWS, and EPA to finalize the <br />Plan/EIS in ~992 and seek authorization for the Reclamation portion <br />of the joint program. <br /> <br />Bureau of Land Manaaement <br /> <br />It has been determined that by the turn of the century, more <br /> <br />than ~,400,000 tons of salt must be removed from the River system <br /> <br />each year in order to maintain the adopted numeric criteria. The <br /> <br />BLM is the largest land manager in the Basin, and lands <br />administered by the BLM are significant contributors of salt to the <br /> <br />river. <br /> <br />Therefore, the Council is extremely pleased with the <br /> <br />7 <br />
