. ,'. -

Denver Water Department
July 27, 1978
Page 5

A significant number of people were also unaware that
the distribution and usage of water in the Denver.area are

paid for by revenues from the sale of water itself. While

51 percent of the respondents answered the question correctly,

16 percent said they were paid for by general property tax,

13 percent said by financial support from the federal government,

17 percent did not know and the other 3 percent gave other

incorrect answers.

A final question on the survey asked respondents what

changes or improvements they would make if they were on the

Denver Water Board. The most often mentioned actions were

enforcing mandatory water conservation restrictions (9

percent), developing new water resources (7 percent),
improving existing reservoirs and plants and building new
ones (7 percent), universal water metering (6 percent),

educating the public on water matters (4 percent),

improving service and water quality (4 percent), and

encouraging voluntary conservation (4 percent).

The survey of 500 Denver metro area households was

conducted in May by V. Lance Tarrance & Associates, a

national opinion survey organization.

# # #

00683.
