"

The role of this local coordinating committee is supportive of
the salinity program. A written understanding of each agency's
responsibility on this committee was developed. The committee
keeps all agencies and groups abreast of what is being
,~~ accomplished in the salinity program. The LSCC meets quarterly, and
~$~ one meeting a year is devoted to evaluating/assessing the
previous year's accomplishments and setting goals, budgets and
priorities for the coming three years concerning the onfarm program.

Q
<::>
~, Coordination with the Bureau of Reclamation
<:r.>

The USDA and USBR salinity control programs both include
improvement of small laterals that impact on-farm improvements.
Therefore, close coordination between the two agencies is
required. Such coordination occurs on two fronts. The District
Conservationist and the Project Manager correlate work elements
and program schedules. Additionally, engineers from both
agencies review application$ for off-farm USDA assistance to prevent
duplication of design effort and review onfarm requirements
associated with the USBR's off-farm work. This assures operational
compatibility of the completed improvements.
Both agencies agree that the workload is more than either can handle.
Therefore, it does not matter which agency gets the work done. The
water users are satisfied with the progress of both agencies.

.,"-~'"
:*'~:;~:.
..~"

Page 6
