Unknown Springs

It is estimated that 17,000 tons of salt per year enter the surface

water from this area. The flow is anticipated to be 1 cfs, with TDS

concentrations in the 30,000 to 40,000 mg/L range. We anticipate

NaCI to be the prominent salt in this water, indicating groundwater.

Control alternatives would be very similar to those for South Salt

Wash. Refer to the attached map for general facilitiy locations.

Fremont River

Initial study of the Fremont River showed no obvious concentrated

sources of controllable salt. The Caineville and Hanksville irriga-

tion systems may have some potential for improvement, yielding salin-

ity reduction. Further study may identify controllable sources.

Additional alternative plans for reducing salt loading will be developed

that will include but not be limited to: collection and disposal, irriga-

tion system improvement, industrial use, withdrawal of salt-contributing

agricultural land, desalting, selective land drainage, canal lining, and

winter stock water pipeline.

002485

(9)
