~1'

SUMMARy OF TASXS
This attachment briefly summarizes the tasks listed in the FY-1992
Scope of Work for the Five Year Flaming Gorge Investigations, and
is a synopsis of the information presented in Attachment C, This
section provides study justifications and summary technical
information for the convenience of the reader. Attachment C
contains the complete scope of work for each individual task
submitted by the lead agency responsible for conducting that task.

Systematic Data Collection and Research

Task 1: Annual assessment of Colorado sauawfish reoroduction and
larval abundance in the lower Yamoa River. Colorado. and the lower
Green River. Utah.

Description of work:
Task 1 is an ongoing SDCR project. UDWR and LFL crews will
document timing, and duration of spawning of by Colorado
squawfish as measured by capture of drifting larvae. Specific
objectives of the study include; detennination of peaks in
abundance of drifting larvae and the relative abundance of
larvae transported form two spawning locations.

Reproduction will be assessed using drift-net sampling at two
sites: one in the Yampa River immediately upstream of the Green-
Yampa River confluence (covers Colorado squawfish produced in
the Yampa River; site used in past sampling) and another in the
Green River below the Desolation-Gray Canyon Colorado squawfish
spawning area. Near-shore drift-net sampling (using flow-
metered nets) will be conducted daily at dawn during late June-
early August. Samples will be preserved in ethanol to allow for
subsequent ageing using otoliths so that spawning times can be
determined.

This study is critical in terms of documenting annual
reproduction of Colorado squawfish and other species so that
various hypothesis regarding the effects of modified flows from
Flaming Gorge dam can be evaluated.

Deliverables:
UDWR will provide sorted and preserved drift net samples from
lower Green River collections to LFL. LFL will sort and
preserve drift net samples from the Yampa River collections.
All samples will be identified. verified, and curated by LFL
personnel. A summary report will be submitted at the end of the
fiscal year.

Budget I:
-Labor

UDWR
$23,800

LFL
$23,800

'Does not include FWS overhead

Budget does not include FWS ove~ad
