<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />I am glad to report that federal legislation has been approved by both the House and Senate <br />and sent to President Clinton that will allow the nepartment of Energy to move the 10.5 million ton <br />uranium mill tailings adjacent to the River to a disposal site located safely away from the River. It <br />is estimated that the work will take at least nine ~ears and cost approximately $265 million. <br /> <br />IBWC's Report on Salinity Operations for Calendar Year 1998 <br /> <br />I have included in the Board handout material, for your information, a copy of Commissioner <br />Bernal's report on the Salinity Operations on the Colorado River Under Minute No. 242 for the <br />period of January I - December 31, 1998. The report shows that the United States operations <br />resulted in compliance with provisions of Minute No. 242. <br /> <br />Minute No. 242 requires "...that the waters delivered to Mexico upstream of Morelos Dam, <br />have an average salinity of no more than lIS parts per million (ppm) 01: 30 ppm. over the annual <br />weighted average salinity of Colorado River waters which arrive at Imperial Dam..."
