I
I
.
I
J
II
L
I
,
.
I
I
.
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

TRANSMISSION INVESTMENT

The following tabulation shows the transmission lines, their

voltage and approximate length as presently proposed to meet the prefer-

ence customer load conditions assumed as of 1970, 1975 and 1980.

Many of the lines will be constructed over rugged terrain making

straight lines in many cases difficult or inadvisable. Knowledge in this

connection could only be gained by actual reconnaissance or survey. TWs

has not been done. For the purpose of tWs report ten percent or more

has been added to all scaled distances for purposes of estimating costs.

Likewise substation arrangements, corrective equipment in-
stallations, intermediate switcWng and sectionalizing arrangements and

communication system can only receive tentative determination at tWs

time. Ample allowance has been made in the following tabulation of es-

timated costs to cover these features.

It is anticipated that in the interests of economy the 230 KV

transmission lines can in large measure be constructed with woad sup-

porting structures. Without at least reconnaissance-type surveys it can-

not be determined in advance where steel supports will be advisable on

account of rough terrain, extra long spans, peculiar climatic conditions, etc.

For the purpose of this report therefor, estimates have been made for all

wood as well as for all steel supports for 230 KV lines. Wood construc-

tion only is contemplated for 115 KV lines.

In summary, if all 230 KV lines were on wood structures, the

estimated construction cost for the entire transmission system, including

substations, switching stations, etc., is approximately $144,000.000. If

steel is used for all 230 KV structures the equivalent construction cost is

estimated at approximately $192,000,000. Due to a combination of the

two types wWch is expected to compose the final system, the resulting

costs will probably range from $155.000,000 minimum to perhaps

$165,000,000 maximum.

- 12 -
