''"i
'~i....) i

vided by the organization of The Metropolitan Water District of
Southern California in 1928, Water .and power were available
from the Colorado River because of plans made years ago by far-
seeing men for the future of Southern California. Without water
and power from Boulder Dam many of our war enterprises would
be impossible. The District contributed its full share to the suc-
cess of this great Colorado River project by contracting to pay for,
whether used 01' not, 36 per cent of the firm capacity of the Boulder
power plant. This power, fortunately not presently needed by the
District, has gone 100 pCI' cent into war work. And the Colorado
River aqueduct, built at a most providential time, in the lean nine-
teen-thirties, has stood firmly back of otherwise limited water
supplies. Due to a succession of abnormally high rainfall years
the actual draft on the aqueduct has not been large, but the im-
portance of aqueduct water to our armed forces, and of supple-
mentary supplies to District cities, has been Rppreciable. Above
all, factories and other enterprises have been built with confidence
in areas with falling ground water levels, in the certain knowledge
that aqueduct service is available if and when other sources fail.
At all times since Pearl Harbor, water hils been available for all
industries which might wish to establish themselves within the
area of the Metropolitan Water District. This applies with equal
force to approved areas outside the present District boundaries.
whose citizens may elect to become a part of the District. on such
lawful terms and conditions as may be approved by the District's
Board of Di rectors.

=;-=-=--.--1'-1 =', _ __ -i I":;-I"~_~ 1A~-1='i!i-I,:::: ril;-._---=:;:I:~II~\II~-.;:i-I-Li-~ ~ - __l ,IIIC
_!I--_'-'--"'I"llr,i.'I_ _~_T,III-1rI1:_II:'!":""J,I'jt,Jt!~I"I'!Ii'I-ul''11 !~' !'I_i t 1111\'_
-1::_, :~,)II oj;"/. ..c::..:"..
