Water Authority, increased moderately <br />this year by 3.4 per cent, the increase representing a constant flow <br />of 23.09 cubic feet per second or H,920,OOO gallons per day. In- <br />cluding the San Diego County Water Authority, the total average <br />water production of the District areas was 806.92 cubic feet per <br />second, or 521,530.000 gallons per day. which included 82.55 c.f.s. <br />from the Colorado River. . <br /> <br />Construction <br /> <br />There was no major construction in progress during the fiscal <br />year. In preparation for construction, designs were started of the <br />second unit of the water softening and filtration plant including <br />the preparation of drawings and specifications for equipment and <br />for the settling basins, filter and zeolite sections, and salt storage. <br />The installation of cascade transformers at Camino to make Hoover <br />Dam power available at the camp was completed. At Eagle Moun- <br />tain camp the sewage disposal system was enlarged and a swim- <br />ming pool was constructed for use of District employees. Drilling <br />of grout holes through the concrete lining followed by injection of <br />cement grout under pressure was carried on through sections of <br />San Jacinto tunnel. Following annexation of the City of Brea to <br />Coastal Municipal Water District, a constituent area of the Metro- <br />politan Water District, a short service connection was constructed <br />from the Orange County feeder to the Brea water system. Minor <br />additions were made to the distribution system. <br />Construction of the San Diego aqueduct by contractors of the <br />United States Navy was actively carried forward. <br /> <br />Area, population, and a.ssessed valuation <br /> <br />During this fiscal year the area, population, and assessed valua- <br />tion of the District were appreciably enlarged by annexations to <br />the City of Anaheim and to Coastal Municipal Water District in <br />Orange County, the annexation of San Diego County Water <br />Authority, and small additions to the cities of Compton, Long <br />B~ach, Los Angeles, and Pasadena in Los Angeles County. Table <br />1 gives the area, population, and assessed valuation of real and <br />personal property and property of utilities subject to taxation, of <br />all constituents of The Metropolitan Water District of Southern <br />California. <br />
