The Security,First National Bank of Los Ange]es <br />in its monthly summary of business conditions for July 1953 reports <br />that business volume and building permits in Southern California <br />in the first half of 1953 again were well above any previous one,half <br />year in history, The monthly summary also states that total em, <br />ployment at the end of the fiscal year was 9 percent above the pre, <br />vious June 30, <br />The combined population of Los Angeles. Orange, Riverside, San <br />Bernardino, and San Diego counties on June 30, 1953 is estimated <br />at 6,200,000, up 8 percent from June 30, 1952, The present popu' <br />lalion of the District is estimated at 4,342,000, <br /> <br />USG of Coloradu River n;aler <br /> <br />Delivery of natural Colorado River water to San Diego County <br />\ areas totaled 28.551 acre,feet, 44 percent of the quantity delivered <br />in the previous fiscal year. Most "f this quantity was delivered in <br />the last third of the fiscal year, after it became evident that little <br />replenishment of local reservoirs would be obtained from rainfall <br />runoff, A total of 27,956 acre, feet of unsoftened water was ,'eleased <br />into the Santa Ana River channel for the Orange County Water <br />District, <br />Sales of softened water increased 18 percent over the previous <br />fiscal year, to a new record total of 102,278 acre,feet, an amount <br />roughly equal to the capacity of Lake Mathews, The foul' largest <br />purchasers of softened water and the amount, of water purchased <br />were: Pasadena 18,083 acre,feet, Los Ange]es 17,049, Long Beach <br />15,323, and Santa Monica 11,483, Constituents using Colorado <br />River water for more than one,third of their water supply were: <br />Santa Monica 96,8 percent, Santa Ana 78,6, Anaheim 71.2, Tor, <br />ranee 67,9, Pasadena 65.1, Coastal Municipa] Water District 57,6, <br />Fullerton 57,2. and Long Beach 40.7, <br />Sales of Colorado River water are shown in table 12 and water <br />production of the constituent areas in table 13, <br /> <br />[ 1 1 <br />
