The

project (Azure originally) is being constructed as

compensatory storage for the Windy Gap project constructed
and operated by the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy

District as a component of the Colorado-Big Thompson

Project. The compensatory storage project would provide
appro~imately 15,000 acre-feet of annual yield. Initially.

this would be leased to the Front Range through the

existipg diversion systems via exchange, in essence

providing the Denver Water Board with increased West Slope

storage. In the long range. this water would revert to

West Slope uses as the demand develops. This project is
expected to be operational by 1995.

Water rights for Azure are described in cases B7CW095

which was

a dilfigence application

in support of cases

-17-
