-
...

~
C'",J
~
c.

ADD 1 -- Property Tax Levy

.-
....

Thomas C. Clark, CAWCD's general manager, said the four cent
tax levy in Maricopa and Pima counties was authorized by a 1990
law approved by the Arizona Legislature to pay for demonstration
recharge projects using surplus CAP water.

Clark said the recharge projects and spending for them must
be approved by the Arizona Department of Water Resources (DWR).

The 1990 law permits the CAWCD board to levy the four cent
tax for a maximum of five years. At the end of that period, it is
anticipated that the demonstration projects and unspent funds
would be turned ever to water recharge agencies in Maricopa and
pima counties.

The Arizona Legislature this year passed a bill authorizing
a Maricopa County agency, the Phoenix Replenishment District.
Last year, the legislature approved a Pima County agency, the
Tucson Augmentation Agency.

-end-
