.

.

C::'
r...
C".1 Di.stri.bution Systems
t"1':
~ Construction of all planned non-Indian agriculuture water
~ distribution systems will be complete by April. The proposed delivery
system for the city of Prescott, a diversion pipeline from the Verde
River, is on hold pending resolution of concerns about its impact on an
endangered fish species in the river.
The Ak-Chin Indian Community on-farm distribution system, begun in
1986, is complete, and has been delivering CAP water since 1987.
Rehabilitation of the Tahono O'Odham Nation's San Xavier District
farm and construction of a new farm for the Schuk Taak District will
begin this year.

Operations**

In 1989, the CAP delivered 715,365 acre-feet of Colorado Riyer
water. Thirty entities received CAP water in 1989. This included nine
irrigation districts, the Ak-Chin Indian Community, and nine
municipalities that have water allocations and long-term CAP water
delivery subcontracts. An additional 11 entities that have only short-
term (generally one year) water delivery contracts purchased water from
the project. That water was used for agricultural, municipal and
construction purposes.
The projected water delivery for 1990 is 882,000 acre-feet. The
project will probably not begin delivering the projected long-term
average of 1.5 million acre-feet per year until 1992, after the city of
Tucson begins taking water.

** Operation and maintenance of completed CAP water delivery facilities is
being perfo~ed by the Central Arizona Water Conservation District (also known
as the Central Arizona Project). The District was formed in 1971 under
Arizona law to operate and maintain the project and repay to the federal
treasury the project's reimbursable construction costs.

-30-
