Pump units are still being installed in both plants, as is <br />interior operating equipment such as heating and lair conditioning <br />systems, and the switchyards are still under construction. <br />Structural concrete is still being placed at Black Mountain and <br />Snyder Hill pumping plants, the last two plants on the CAP aqueduct. <br />Construction of the plant structures is about 23 percent complete. <br />Work continues on the 3.5 mile-long pipeline/tunnel system that <br />will deliver CAP water to the City of Tucson. The 2.2 mile-long pipeline <br />is essentially complete. Excavation of the 1.5-mile tunnel, which runs <br />under the Tucson Mountains, was completed on Ootober 25. About 1,300 <br />feet of the tunnel have now been lined with concrete. Completion of the <br />tunnel is soheduled for July. <br />Excavation of a 7.5 mile-long pipeline from the Black Mountain <br />pumping plant south to a regulating reservoir on the San Xavier <br />Reservation is just beginning. Excavation of the 200-acre reservoir <br />also is underway. Excavation of a 2.9 mile-long section of pipeline <br />south of the reservoir is expected to begin in March. <br />The final construction contracts on the aqueduct - for the <br />remaining five miles of the aqueduct, for a transmission line to provide <br />electric power to Tucson-area pumping plants and for installation of <br />cables that will allow Tucson aqueduct features to be operated from <br />project headquarters in Phoenix - will be awarded this year. <br /> <br />is complete to the San xavier <br />Twin Peaks pumping plant. <br />testing at the Twin Peaks <br /> <br />pumping plant, but only <br /> <br />and Sandario plants is now <br /> <br />New Waddell Dam <br /> <br />Stage I construction activities have been completed. This included <br />excavation and grouting of the dam's foundation, excavation of two <br />tunnels for delivering Colorado River water into and out of storage in <br />Lake Pleasant, excavation and concrete lining of a tunnel to release <br />water from the dam to the Agua Fria River, and construction of a <br />pipeline to carry Agua Fria River flows around the damsite during <br />construction. <br />Also complete is a one-half mile, 21-foot diameter inverted siphon <br />under the Agua Fria River just downstream of the new dam site. The <br />siphon is part of the Waddell Canal, which will carry Colorado River <br />water from the main CAP aqueduct to storage behind New Waddell Dam, and <br />from the dam back to the CAP aqueduct. <br /> <br />-more- <br />
