. '

.

.

Irrigation Benefits AnalySis

Irrigation benefits consist of direct, indirect, and public
benefits. Direct benefits are the increased net farm income that will
occur as a result of construction of the unit. Indirect and public
benefits will occur on a value added basis for processing increased
crop production and stabilization of the local economy.

Farm budgets for the "with" and "without" future situation were
prepared and used to determine the irrigation benefits attributable to
the proposed development.

New water estimated to be available for determination of gross
irrigation benefits consists of 102,000 acre-feet of stored water to be
released at the reservoir and 24,500 acre-feet of usable return flow,
for a total of 126,500 acre-feet (109,700 acre.feet in 1973 DPR). No
benefi ts are cl aimed for 31,000 acre-feet of water assumed to be
acqui red from the Weldon Va 11 ey Canal di rect-fl ow ri ghts.

The following tabu'ation summarizes the derivation of these benefits
through increased net farm income attrib~table to the project.

Item

Dollars

Forage and feed grain
Grains for processing
Sugar beets
Livestock
(livestock purchases)
(Net livestock increase)
Perqui sites

Total income
Farm expenses
Net fa rm income
Less alternate earnings

Direct irrigation benefits

$4,695,800
42,400
3,463,600
8,844,000
(6,862,100)
(1,981,900)
177 ,800

17,223,700
12,120,300
5,103,400
148,000

$4,955,400

Indirect and publ ic. benefits are based on the processing of
increased agricultural production and the related stability of the
local economy resulting from the project. Direct, indirect, and
public irrigation benefits are listed below along with OM&R savings
attributed to the project.

17
