irrigation, flood control, and other beneficial uses in planning new water

impoundment structures. In addition, this consideration should also apply to

the management of existing water impoundments, streams, and waterways. By

promoting the protection and appropriate utilization of existing and proposed
waters, the state can provide a more wholesome recreational, social, and

environmental experience for the people and visitors of the state of South

Dakota. Water resources should be managed to provide fish and wildlife habitat

to meet fishing, hunting, and other public demands for water-based recreational

opportunities.

WYOMING
In areas where water resource developments are made, advantage shall be
taken to concurrently develop water-oriented recreation potentials. The
presence of streams, lakes, and reservoirs create opportunities for recreation
which need to be developed and maintained in order that the greatest benefit

can be realized from their use. The expanding population resulting from energy

related and natural resource development activities is creating added burdens

and pressures on available recreation possibilities. Therefore, it is

essential that advantage be taken of all feasible expansion of such facilities
and that new recreational opportunities be developed.

G-44
