State policies presently do not apply to preservation of wetlands or river

corridors. Historic and cultural features are protected under State and

Federal laws.

MINNESOTA
Development of certain areas of Minnesota possessing important historic,

cultural, or esthetic values or natural systems which perform functions of

greater than local significance, could result in irreversible damage to these

resources, decrease their value and utility for public purposes, or

unreasonably endanger life and property. Therefore, the State should identify

these areas of critical concern and assist and cooperate with local units of

government in the preparation of plans and regulations for the wise use of

these areas.

In the effort to preserve the environmental valuea of the State,

outstanding geographical areas possessing historical, architectural, and

esthetic values are of paramount importance in the...development of the State.

Areas with an unusual concentration of distinctive historical and architectural

values are threatened with destruction or impairment by ever increasing

extensions of urban centersl highways I and residential, commercial, and

industrial developments. It is in the public interest...to preserve these

historic districts which represent and reflect elements of the State's

cultural, social, economic, religious, pOlitical, architectural, and esthetic
heritage.

MISSOURI
The State of Missouri will develop and provide natural and cultural
resource programs for the recreational and educational benefit of present and
future generations I identify and provide maximum protection to important and
significant natural and cultural history resources I and provide maximum
protection for significant cultural resources.

G-32
