<br />'000582 <br /> <br />KANSAS <br />Kansas law states that water planning shall consider local development of <br /> <br />watershed conservation when consiatent with sound economic and engineering <br /> <br />principles. State statutes specifically call for inclusion of 19 million acres <br />of land within watershed programs in the near term. <br />MINNESOTA <br />It is the policy of the State of Minnesota to provide for the conservation <br />of the soil and soil resources of the State, for the control and prevention of <br /> <br />soil erosion, for land resource planning and development, for implementation of <br /> <br />land-use practices that effectively reduce siltation and loss of the land base <br />through activities associated with farming, mining, construction, forestry, and <br /> <br />other activities of man, and for flood prevention or the conservation, <br /> <br />development, utilization, and disposal of water, including but not limited to, <br />measures for fish and wildlife and recreational development, thereby preserving <br /> <br />natural resources, controlling floods, preventing impairment of dams and <br /> <br />reservoirs, assisting in maintaining the navigability of rivers and harbors, <br /> <br />preserving wildlife, protecting the tax base, and protecting public lands by <br />land-use practices. <br /> <br />MISSOURI <br />The State of Missouri intends to provide technical assistance to develop <br />and carry out programs to ensure the use the conservation treatment of <br />Missouri's land is in harmony with its capability and needs. The State will <br />continue to conduct training and coordinate activities on water conservation <br />districts and assist in the organization of new watershed subdistricts; <br />inventory Missouri's soil resources through modern soil surveys at the district <br /> <br />level; and implement land reclamation laws to ensure current and expanded <br /> <br />mining operations meet environmental reclamation standards and promote the <br /> <br />reclamation of abandoned mine lands. <br /> <br />G-23 <br />
