Water Oualitv Standards

. The Water Quality Control Commission has established a dissolved selenium
standard of 4,6u'gtl for the mainstem ofthe Gunnison River.

3. Problem Identification

· The water quality problem is non-attainment of the dissolved selenium
standard in the mainstem of the Gunnison River from the confluence of the
Uncompahgre River to the confluence with the Colorado Riv~
. The Gunnison Basin Selenium Task Force has determined that irrigation of
naturally occurring seleniferous soils, as well as local geologic formations, to
be the main cause of elevated dissolved selenium in the Gunnison River.

4, Water Oualitv Goals and Targets

. The Water Quality Goal, for this TMDL, is attainment of the Aquatic Life Use
Classification in Segment 2 of the Lower Gunnison River Basin,
. A Water Quality Target is the attainment of the 4,6 ug/I Se standard in the
entire reach of Segment 2, The geographical location where routine water
quality sampling has occurred and will continue to occur is at the Whitewater
