COST-EFFECTIVENESS COMPARISON WITH OTHER SALINITY CONTROL UNITS

Cost effectiveness is being used by the Bureau of Reclamation to deter-
mine which salinity control units or components of units have the great-
est potential for reducing salinity concentration for the least money
spent. An array of cost-effectiveness rates and reduction of salt load-
ing to the Colorado River system provides a basis for comparing the
effects of the various units or their components. Units that have been
completed or are nearing completion are used as a base for comparing
with units under study. Only units for which planning reports have been
prepared are included in the comparison.

The summary table on the following page compares the Dolores project
salinity control features with two completed units--the Stage One devel-
opment of the Grand Valley Unit and the Meeker Dome Unit--and with the
Lower Gunnison Basin Unit, the Stage Two development of the Grand Valley
Unit, and the Uinta Basin Unit.

S-9
