The
precipitation at Sherman Darn was 11.31 inches, which is 54 percent of
normal. Releases into the Farwell Canals totaled 96,082 acre-feet. Due
to dry weather conditions causing low flows in the Middle Loup River and
large irrigation demands, all active storage in Sherman Reservoir was
evacuated by August 2 and releases were discontinued on August 3rd. Inflow
from the Sherman Feeder Canal increased considerably during the second week
'i~ August and irrigation releases were resumed on August 12 and continued
through September 9th. The Loup Basin Recl~ation District reports that
40,481 acres of Farwell Irrigation District lands were irrigated in 1974.
The gross crop value of $12,783,331 was 48 percent greater than in 1973.

....::;

.:.... :~

A pilot Irrigation Management Services program was started which included
six cooperators with 312 acres.
