This is an increase of 16% in the twenty-six-year

period of 1933-1959.

stream runoff is diverted by two ditches and the water exported to the

Rio Grande Basin. The Fuches Ditch exports runoff of the North Fork of the

Pine River to Weminuche Creek, tributary to the Rio Grande. The Raber-Lohr

Ditch exports runoff of Rincon la Vaca Creek to Weminuche Creek. The exported

water is used in Colorado. The water exported by the two ditches in recent

low runoff years is near double the average for the 1942-1956 period of higher

runoff. This indicates the diversion capacity of the ditches has been in-

creased in recent years.

The communities of Bayfield and Ignacio, with a combined population of

about 1,000 people use Pine River water.

An estimate of the present stream depletion is given in the following

Table XV.

TABLE XV

Total

49,200 Acre Feet
3,600 It It
5,200 It It
100 It It
58,100 Acre Feet

Average annual stream depletion for irrigation.,.
Average annual stream depletion by water
exported (1)...........,..............,.....
Average annual stream depletion by reservoir
evaporation. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Average annual stream depletion by municipal use.

(1) The average annual water exported for the period 1953-1956 is used as
the stream depletion by water exported from the basin.

-24-

.i
