12

REPORT OF COLORADO RIVER COMMISSION OF NEVADA

In 1963 the commission was asked to and did accept the responsibility for
accomplishment of construction of the Southern Nevada Water Supply Proj-
ect by the United States Bureau of Reclamation. The commission was further
authorized to operate and maintain this water supply project upon comple-
tion of its construction.

WATER AND POWER SERVICE

During 1965 the commission purchased and sold 1,025 million kilowatt
hours of energy, of which 28 percent was used by the Nevada Power Com-
pany, 61 percent was used by the contractors at Henderson, and .the balance
was used by domestic, commercial, and small water-pumping loads in the Las
Vegas, Henderson, Overton, and Pioche areas, and in the Pahrump, Amar-
gosa, and Moapa Valleys.
The Lincoln County Power District used 46.5 million kilowatt hours, an
increase of 30 percent above its 1964 total due mainly to increase in mining
in the area. The Overton Power District used 21.3 million.kilowatt hours, an
increase of 3 percent. Amargosa Valley Cooperative used 15.8 million kilo-
watt hours, an increase of 15 percent.
The Colorado River Commission purchased and sold 19,894 acre feet of
water in 1965 to Basic Management,' Incorporated, and to the Las Vegas
Valley Water District, and to numerous small water users.
