The purpose of the report is <br />to inform individuals involved with AQUATRAIN of current and upcoming acti- <br />vities so that a coordinated effort can be maintained and project flag <br />dates met. <br /> <br />2.0 SUBTEAM: WATER RIGHTS/WATER SUPPLY/STATE ISSUES <br />2.1 JUNE EVENTS <br /> <br />On June 6, Governor Matheson of Utah was briefed on the concepts and <br />status of the project. Governor Matheson endorsed the project concepts <br />and suggested formation of a coalition of Governors from participating <br />States to coordinate joint activities. <br /> <br />During the week of June II, representatives of The Resources Agency and <br />The Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, State of California, <br />were briefed on the AQUATRAIN Project concepts and objectives. Positive <br />responses were received with suggestions that other State agencies also <br />be bri efed. <br /> <br />2.2 ANTICIPATED JULY EVENTS <br /> <br />Possible briefings for additional California State agencies. <br /> <br />Committee markup of salinity control legislation scheduled for Senate on <br />July 23 and House of Representatives on July 31. <br /> <br />3.0 SUBTEAM: COAL MARKET/COAL SUPPLY <br /> <br />Barrett, Greenwood, Johnson, and Clinton attended the 80th meeting of Rocky <br />Mountain Coal Mining Institute. Representatives of many coal companies <br />were contacted regarding their interest in AQUATRAIN. Coal industry seems <br />to be moving toward more cooperative efforts with Government. <br /> <br />At the Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute meeting, Regional Director <br />Barrett presented the Bureau of Reclamation's Citizen's Award to Ira <br />McKeever for his efforts in fostering the public/private cooperation and <br />open planning process that have underpinned the AQUATRAIN Project. <br /> <br />4.0 SUBTEAM: FINANCIAL/ECONOMIC <br /> <br />Economics deferred pending result of engineering cost estimate. <br />
