The Record of Decision was signed in July <br />1989. <br /> <br />The construction contract for Reach 1 of the Towaoc <br />Canal was awarded and work will begin in FY 90. Coordination <br />continues with the Soil Conservation Service, The Montezuma <br />Valley Irrigation Company, and the Dolores Water Conservancy <br />District. <br /> <br />Lower Gunnison Basin Unit Reclamation) - The Winter <br />Water-portlon of the Un t w 11 remove wlnter flows from canal <br />systems and, in lieu, serve the winter demand from a rural <br />domestic water distribution system. Under the proposed <br />construction process, Reclamation will fund the construction <br />of facilities by local entities. <br /> <br />In June 1989, the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users <br />Association has completed the final inventory of the <br />replacement needs in June 1989. The inventory data will be <br />used by the water suppliers to develop final designs, cost <br />estimates, and construction specifications for off-farm <br />distribution system modifications. This work will also be <br />accomplished under cooperative agreements with Reclamation. <br />Designs for the Tri-County system were done under a $46,000 <br />cooperative agreement in preparation for fiscal year 1990 <br />construction funding. <br /> <br />Water Qualit Pr Units (Reclamation- <br />Department 0 Agr culture) - The 0 oWlng Water Qua ty <br />Improvement Program (WQIP) studies were continued in this <br />reporting period. <br /> <br />uinta Basin (Reclamation-Department of Agriculture) - <br />The Phase II study was completed 'In 1989. The study <br />evaluated the salinity control potential of areas and <br />opportunities not studied under the Phase I program. The <br />Phase II report recommends that 3.2 miles of the My ton <br />Townsite Canal be lined which would remove 2,150 tons of salt <br />at a cost effectiveness of $90 per ton. The report also <br />recommends evaluating a winter water replacement program <br />alternative in future studies. <br /> <br />-9- <br />
