Metropolitan Water Supply Investigations - Phase II Plan of Study
7/5/944:17PM

Page 10

b) flpproach

Review technical information on artificial recharge of deep aquifers which will
include: Willows Water District/Denver WaterlUSBR Denver Basin
Demonstration Project, Centennial Water and Sanitation District Aquifer
Storage and Recovery Project, Denver Water information, other conjunctive
use proposals or projects, USGS studies, previous modeling studies,
interviews with key people and case study information on deep bedrock
aquifer recharge outside of the Denver Basin.

Evaluate: achievable injection/infiltration rates and volumes, effects on the
recharging wells. effects on the aquifer, water quality issues,
recommendations on: water quality requirements, well cleaning requirements,
timing and volume limits on storage and retrieval, potential long range issues.

Evaluate economic issues related to recharging Denver Basin aquifers: drilling
costs, equipping costs, 0 & M costs, equipment replacement costs, and power
costs. Costs for recharge will be presented on a traditional cost per acre foot
basis.

c) Output
A memorandum report presenting compiled findings with accompanying
graphs, maps and tables as needed.

d) Sub-Task Leader: Robert Tafelski

3. Sub-Task 4c: Resource Assessment of South Platte Alluvial Aquifers

a) Purpose:
Review background information and identify issues related to potential use of
alluvial aquifers of the South Platte River aquifer and its tributaries between
Chatfield Reservoir and Greeley for conjunctive use groundwater projects.
This effort will also include Beebe Draw from Barr Lake to Milton Reservoir.

,
Identify aquifer characteristics, supply availability, storage and lagging
potential.

Provide design criteria and economic analysis for storage, augmentation and
withdrawal from these aquifers.

b) flpproach
Conduct an inventory South Platte alluvial groundwater resources and aquifer
characteristics based on existing studies, well logs and consultants'
background knowledge.
