encumbered FY 94 funds are depleted. We have run out of shelving
for collection storage and organization; until new shelving is
funded, we will temporarily box backlogged collections not likely
to be catalogued under the current project,

B. Finalize and document standard procedures for cataloguing the
remaining backlog of collections maintained by the Laboratory and
new collections as they are received and processed. Rescheduled
for early 1995.

C. Seek and arrange for electronic (or on-disk) transfer of needed
collection information from the agencies or firms that deposited
collections but not associated data. Ongoing through end of
project.

D. Document time required to catalogue collections and estimate time
and costs required to finish cataloguing Upper Colorado River Basin
collections and to incorporate cataloguing as part of future sample
processing. Rescheduled for early 1995.

E. Continue to investigate means for establishing a formal link with
the National Biological Survey (formerly U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service) Field Station Museum or an appropriate alternative museum
or organization. We have abandoned hopes for a direct link with
the Field Station Museum which is now located in Albuquerque in
associate with the Museum of Southwestern Biology (HSB), University
of New Mexico, However, we have established ourselves as part of
the newly formed Colorado Alliance of Biodiversity Collections
(CABC) whose purpose is to help assure the permanency and proper
care of preserved Colorado natural-history collections, regardless
of current location or affiliation, and include copies of all
catalogue data in one core database for easy, consolidated access
by researchers and resource managers. CABC will eventually include
out-of-state collections of Colorado material such as that
maintained by MSB. We also may join an effort to establish a
southwest regional network of fish collections databases (including
MSB and collections at the University of Texas, Texas A & M
University, Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma,
Arizona State University, and institutions in northern Mexico),
Once fully established, CABC should help assure collection
permanency and the centralized databases of both of these
organizations will indirectly link our collections with those of
the Field Station Museum which is the primary depository for larger
fishes from the Upper Colorado River Basin.

F. Establish on-line (internet) access to the catalogue. Rescheduled
for early 1995, We are currently investigating placement of
periodically updated copies of the catalogue, or portions thereof,
on our College's local "gopher" or "World-Wide Web" server and use
a speCial MUSE program that will allow on-line search capabilities,
Alternatively, we are investigating placement of the files on other
MUSE host computers such as those at Cornell University, University
of California-Davis, or University of Texas-Austin. For preserved
collections maintained by LFL, this on-line catalogue will
complement the numerous dBase files of data maintained under the

2
