COLORADO RIVER RECOVERY PROGRAM
FY 94 ANNUAL PROJECT REPORT

RECOVERY PROGRAM
PROJECT NUMBER: 16

I, Project Title: Database Management Program

II. Principal Investigator(s):

Frank K. Pfeifer, Project Leader
Charles W. HcAda, Fishery Biologist
764 Horizon Drive, South Annex A
Grand Junction, Colorado 81506
(303) 245-9319: Fax 245-6933
Internet: R6FFA GRJ@FWS.GOV

III. Project Summary:

Development of a centralized database was an initial requirement of the
Recovery Program. The Service's Grand Junction Office was instrumental
in developing the database and has managed it since 1986. Participants
are reqUired to submit their data in Dbase files. File structure is
flexible, but participants are requested to use established field names
when appropriate. The Database Manager catalogs the files as they are
submitted and prepares basic documentation. Lists of endangered fishes
tagged with PIT tags are submitted and consolidated annually. All
remaining data collected as part of studies funded by the Recovery
Program are required to be submitted to the Database when the final
report is submitted, With the exception of tagging lists and ISMP
data, relatively few other types of data files were received in FY 94,
Reminders will be sent out in January requesting data from
investigators who completed studies in 1994,

IV, Study Schedule: Scheduled to continue for the length of the Recovery
Program,

V, Relationship to RIPRAP: General Recovery Program Support Action Plan,
V.A.2, Conduct interagency data management program to compile, manage,
and maintain, all research and monitoring data collected by the
Recovery Program.

VI. Accomplishment of FY 94 Tasks and Deliverables, Discussion of Initial
Findings and Shortcomings:

Current PIT tag lists (through 1993) were obtained from all researchers
and a combined list was sent to all researchers contributing tagging
data. The pit tag numbers were checked before being added to the
combined list, A few minor inconsistencies were found and clarified by
the original researchers. Other inconsistencies were corrected when
noticed, However, it is impossible to verify all information submitted
by the original researchers.

1994 tagging data has been coming in, but all investigators have not
yet submitted their data (it is not due until after the first of the
year). The data will be checked for inconsistencies when all data sets
are in, consolidated into a combined database and distributed to all
researchers who contributed data.
