Larry Anderson
"",Chairperson, Colorado River Basin
CD Salinity Control Forum
o Division of Water Resources
0\ 1636 west North Temple
salt Lake City, utah 84116

Dear Mr. Anderson:

Thank you for the opportunity to review the Report on the 1990 Review of Water
QUality standards for salinity - Colorado River System. The Colorado River
Basin salinity Control Forum is to be commended for a very thorough and
professional job in its preparation.

since 1975, the u.s. Department of Agriculture has administered its onfarm
salinity control program in coordination with the Department of Interior,
Basin states, and the Forum. The results of that combined effort have been
impressive. Through 1989, an annual salt load reduction of more than
185,000 tons has been achieved.

Moreover, the National Salinity Control Coordinating Committee (NSCCC) has no
reason to believe these past reductions will not be maintained or that
progress will not continue. We concur,. therefore, with the decision of the
Forum to not seek revision of the established Standards for salinity for the
Colorado River System.

The NSCCC also supports the proposed plan of Implementation contained in the
1990 Review. As presented, this plan represents a balanced and comprehensive
approach to salinity reduction. In particular, the Committee shares the
commitment of the FOrum to seek the most cost-effective salinity control
programpossib1e.

Again, thank you for the opportunity to review this report.

Sincerely,

G,,:-..~~

PEJI'ER M.
