Memorandun

To: Files

Subject: Response to letter of April 11, 1986, fran the Colorado
Division of Wildlife, Montrose, Colorado

55. Ccmrent:

The Division has reviewed the draft E.A. and participated in your field review
of this project. The adverse effects on wildlife populations are minimal and we
are in agreement with the statements contained in the draft. A canbination of
added flows fran McPhee Reservoir and the desalinazition (sic) project should
benefit any fishery fran this point on the Dolores to the San Miguel River.

Response:

The ccmrent is appreciated; no response is required.

56. Carrnent:

The Division reccmrends that private land purchased by the Bureau of Reclamation
(360) which is not used for the project, be turned over to the Bureau of Land
Management for continued develqxnent. River rafting is one of the main public
activities in this area and a retrieval area is needed. The remaining lands
should be maintained for wildlife habitat which would compensate for any losses
associated with the construction and maintenance of the project.

Response:

As stated in the environmental assessment, Reclamation is planning to transfer
any excess land purchased for unit purposes to the ELM. No formal agreements
have been made, but transfer of this land to ELM is anticipated after testing is
canpleted.

:: 0C 083

41
