<br />.... <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />t <br /> <br />RECREATION <br /> <br />With the construction of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project, several <br />outstanding recreational areas are being created. The reservoirs and ad- <br />jacent areas will not only afford increased recreational use for hundreds <br />of thousands of Colorado residents, but also for countless numbers of non- <br />residents dravrn here qy Rocky kountain National Park and other recreational <br />centers. Fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking and camping will be pDpular <br />at most of the reservoir sites and one or tWD may even become winter sports <br />areas. Granby Reservoir will be the second largest body of water in the <br />state. <br /> <br />The great increase Df recreatiDnal activities on this project means <br />that cDncessions, resorts, cabin camps and Dther facilities will have to be <br />provided lor the people using the areas, This should have an excellent af- <br />fect upon the econo~ of Colorado and the Nation. Recreational benefits <br />are estimated at more than $600;000 annually. <br /> <br />In order to get the greatest recreatiDnal use out Df this project, the <br />Bureau is wDrking closely with other Federal and State agencies 'and with <br />interested grDups on the recreatiDnal planning for these areas. <br /> <br />PURCHASE OF J.iATERIALS <br /> <br />Materials entering intD the permanent works, such as cement, lumber, <br />(not including lum~er for forms), reinfDrcing stoel, pipe, gates and valves, <br />structural steel, machinery, etc., v~ll be purchased by the Government after <br />appropriate advertising and competitive bidding. Equipment, materials, and <br />supplies required in the construction plant and camp qnd in incidental opera- <br />tions of the various contractors ~~ll be purchased hy the contractors. <br /> <br />EMPLOY1\ENT <br /> <br />Engineering .plans and specifications are prepared in the office of the <br />thief Engineer, Bureau of Reclamation, Denv2r, Cclorado. <br /> <br />All construction work is performed under the inspection of the engi- <br />neers of the Bureau of ReclamatiDn. It is required that all emploJ~ent on <br />thll Bureau's rolls (with t.he exceptiDn of laborers. and other unskilled posi- <br />tions) be made in accordance "~th the rules 3nd regulations of the United <br />States Civil Service Cor.~ssion. ~ualificd emplDyees from other Bureau <br />projects are transferred -..,henever possible to this project. Employments <br />in new positions which cannot be filled by transfers of present Bureau em- <br />ployees, are made by selections from eligible lists furnished by the Civil <br />Service Commission. <br /> <br />For information concerning technical positions such as Civil Engineer, <br />Construction Engirleer, Hydrologic Engineer, Electrical Engineer, etc., and <br />for other positiens, such as bookkeeper, stenographer, clerk, costkeeper, <br />timekeeper, draftsman, constructiDn inspector, and survey party positions, <br />(chaiprnan, radman, levclman, transitman, plane~~bleman, instrumentman, and <br /> <br />9 <br />
