oc
00
ro

"

SUMMARY SHEETS

Smith Fork project

LOCATION: Hest-central Colorado along Smith Fork of Gunnison River in
vicinity of Crawford, Colo., Upper Colorado River Basin.

AUTHORIZED: Authorized as a participating project with the Colorado River
Storage project by act of April ll, 1956 (70 Stat. 105).

PLAN
-

Crawford Reservoir will be constructed on Iron Creek, a tributary
of Smith Fork. The reservoir will regulate surplus flows of Iron
Creek and surplus flows of the Smith Fork of the Gunnison River
that will be conveyed to the reservoir by the Smith Fork Feeder
Canal. Small quantities of reservoir storage water will be released
to Iron Creek and diverted by several small existing ditches. The
remainder will be released to the new Aspen Canal and conveyed by
the canal to existing ditches for distribution. Some of the stor-
age releases through the Aspen Canal will replace present direct
flow diversions from Smith Fork, thus permitting additional direct
flow diversions to be made higher on the stream through existing
ditches, Drains ,Till be constructed as needed. Basic recreational
facilities ,Till be provided at Crawford Reservoir.

COSTS

Construction costs!!
Crawford Dam and Reservoir . . . . . . . .
Smith Fork Feeder Canal and Diversion Dam .

AspenCanal ..................
Landdrains ...............
Operation and maintenance headquarters . . .
Recreational facilities .. . . . . .

Total . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Y Based on August 1958 prices.

.

$3,275,000
345,000
721,000
41,000
9,000
29,000
4,420,000

. . .

. .

.

. .

. .

. .

. .

.

. . .

Annual 0 eration and maintenance costs
Based on 1955-57 prices

. . . . . . . .

$15,800
