The mapping was accomplished with funds

made available by the State of Colorado. The current FY 1967 program

will include an additional $10,000 contribution by the State. These

funds will enable land classification work to be started this fiscal

year instead of in Fr 1969 as previously programed.
\of ADVANCE PLANNING

Advance planning on the Fruitland Mesa Project is receiving pri-

ority to permit completion of a definite plan report in December 1966.

As a Tesult of recent field inspection and geologic exploration, the

inlet location for the Black Mesa tunnel has been moved about 1,000 feet

downstream. The diversion site on Curecanti Creek may also be moved down-

stream below Commissary Gulch in order to improve the project water supply.

Some foundation drilling for specification. design at Soap Park Damsite

has been done but funds are insufficient this fiscal year to complete

all of the drilling program desired by the Chief Engineer. Water supply

studies are currently being revised to determine whether Some adjustment

in project acreage or project plan will be necessary.

Land classification anfi drainage studies on the Savery-Pot Hook

Project are continuing. Field work for land classification and drainage

has been completed in the Two Bar area of the project. Land classifica-

tion field parties have been working for several months in the vicinity

of Baggs, wyoming. Our program in the Pot H80k and Savery Canal service

areas is to update the previous land classification and to obtain a better

correlation between the land classification sampling and soil drainage

characteristics. This latter evaluation involves deep hole borings to

8
