The Ridges Basin Dam and Reservoir The design and construction of Ridges Basin Dam and Reservoir has started The off-stream rcservoirwill be located s!)uthwest of Durango, Colorado and have tbe ability to store approximately 120,000 acre-feet(totaI capacity) of water. The waterwill then be released, as necessary, back to the Animas River for municipal and in- dustrial users within Colorado and New Mexico. The reservoir will have an inactive pool of approximately 30,000 acre-feet of water for recreation, fish, and wa- ter quality purposes. Pumping Plant Reclamation is completing the de. signs for the Durango Pwnping Plant and construction will begin next year. The 280 cubic feet per second capac- ity pumping plant will be located south of the center of Durango on the west side of the Animas River across from SantaRitaParlc. The plant will pump water from the river up to the Ridges Basin Reservoir. Relocation of Utilities and County Road Four natura1 gas pipelines, an elec- tric transmission line, and a county road will be relocated as a result of construction of Ridges Basin Dam ',I and Reservoir. The pipelines, trans- mission line, and county road will be rerouted around the reservoir, The work is expected to begin this sum- meo: l'ii Cultural Resource Contract Reclamation is pursuing an Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (Act) contract with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe (UMUT) for cultura1 resources investigations on the ALP Project. This will be lhe first construction-related contract under the Act for the project. " (I ~...: '> f..: ~.. ~) The UMUTwill asswne much oftbe contract administration functions normally canied out by Reclamation. It is anticipated that the contract be- tween Reclamation and the UMUT can be se=d this spring. Work is expected to begin this summer prior to any construction.
