002875

Dr. Evans reported on an inventory being conducted
by the Colorado State University for the Colorado Legis-
lature. It is hoped that this inventory will help eliminate
duplications in future studies and research projects, and
also point out needs and establish priorities for funding
of future studies.

A general discussion of research needs, other projects
being initiated, and new 9~udies that might be undertaken
followed.

victor R. Hill commented on the Second National
Assessment from the point of view of the Great Basin.

Mr. John Frost, representing the Water Resources
Council, discussed Council activities, and in particular
their part in developing the National Water Policy and
the work plan for the implementation of the revised
principles and standards.

Lyle Klubben reported on the study of increased water
yields through vegetation management being conducted by
the Water and Vegetation Management Subcommittee. The
study has progressed to the point where a detailed
feasibility study of the potential for increased water
yields is indicated. The Water and Vegetation Manage-
ment Subcommittee recommends that the Forest Service be
requested to take the ,lead in developing a plan for
such a feasibility study. The proposed feasibility study
would examine the potential for increasing water yields
in the Colorado River Basin through vegetation management.
When the plan of study is conpleted, it is anticipated
that requests for federal funds can be made to initiate
the actual feasibility study.

Clement Lord made a motion, seconded by Carl
Slingerland, that the Executive Subcommittee recommend
to the Parent Committee that the Forest Service be
asked to undertake such a plan of study. The motion
was passed unanimously.

The Subcommittee decided to recommend to the Parent
Committee that the 79-1 meeting be held in Arizona in
April, and the 79-2 meeting be held in Wyoming in late
August or early September, with the exact time and place
to be left up to the host state.

There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned at 11:25 A.M.

c-5
