The majority of the farmu in the area are irrigated units. Irrigation <br /> <br />water is obtained from canals serving the area and from wells. Many of the <br /> <br />areas along the Hood plain 01 the South Platte River are sub-irrigated. Compara- <br /> <br />tively little dry land cropping is practiced. The majority of the land not irrigated <br /> <br />is dry land pasture. <br /> <br />Generally speaking, good cropping practices are followed. Improverre nts, <br /> <br />for the most p:lrt, app8ar to be well maintnined. In con_man with most agricultur- <br /> <br />al communities in this gC'llcral ,area, the trend i3 t0wai'd brgcr opernting units. <br /> <br />This has resulted in th~ abandonment of 11 number of sets of farm improvements. <br /> <br />The Towns of \i'eldolla and Goodrich arc situated within the area of the <br /> <br />propo,sed fee taking. Th.e TaWil of Orchard lies wholly withb the flood easement <br /> <br />. arcn. <br /> <br />ThC's'~ an~ all small communities thd have shown little evidence of develop- <br /> <br />ment for a l1"mber of years. They are not served by community water or sanitary <br /> <br />sewer systems. <br /> <br />The propo3ed taking for the reservoir will inclutlc all or part of nine oil <br /> <br />. <br />. <br /> <br />and gas fields. Sl':ven of these fidds are presently producing. <br /> <br />Gathering lines, an oil pipe line and a natural gas line are situated within <br /> <br />the reservoir area. <br /> <br />Services <br /> <br />Electric light and power services arc available to the entire area. <br /> <br />The Union Pacific Railroad, with a single line track, extends the full <br /> <br />. length of the reservoir. This railroad serves all of the communities in the <br />proposed reservoir area. <br />
