Land tenure adjustments, <br />off-road vehIcle use, and recreation, wilderness, <br />and forestry Issues received the most response. <br /> <br />The first RMP newsletter was published In <br />March 1985 and mailed to about 700 addresses. <br />A second newsletter was published and mailed <br />In December 1985. <br /> <br />The public was Invited to comment on three <br />draft rssource management alternatives (the <br />Continuation of Current Managemsnt, Produc- <br />tion, and Conservation alternatives) at a ssrles of <br />Open House Meetings held In Montrose, Delta, <br />and paonla In January 1986. Comments <br />received were considered In finalizing these al- <br />ternatlvesand In formulating the BlM's Preferred <br />Alternative. <br /> <br />The draft RMP/EIS was flied with the Environ- <br />mental Protection Agency In July of 1987. <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />Notice of availability of the draft and an- <br />nouncement of pUblic hearings was published In <br />the Federal Register on August 7, 1987; page <br />29445. The public was provided a 90-<lay com- <br />ment period on the Draft RMP/EIS. <br /> <br />Nsws releases also provided Information con- <br />cerning the Draft RMP/EIS and the public hear- <br />Ings which were held In Hotchkiss, Colorado, on <br />September22, 1987; In Lakewood, Colorado, On <br />Septembsr 24, 1987; and In Montrose, Colorado, <br />on Ssptembsr 29, 1987. <br /> <br />Fifty-one (51) psrsons testified at the public <br />hearings. Ons hundred and seventy-three (173) <br />persons, groups, or agencies submitted written <br />comments. Both comments and responses <br />were published In the Proposed RMP/Flnal EIS. <br /> <br />Notice of availability of the Proposed RMP IFlnal <br />EIS was published In the Federal Register on Oc- <br />tober 7, 1988; page 39538.
