The public was Invited to comment on three draft rssource management alternatives (the Continuation of Current Managemsnt, Produc- tion, and Conservation alternatives) at a ssrles of Open House Meetings held In Montrose, Delta, and paonla In January 1986. Comments received were considered In finalizing these al- ternatlvesand In formulating the BlM's Preferred Alternative. The draft RMP/EIS was flied with the Environ- mental Protection Agency In July of 1987. Introduction Notice of availability of the draft and an- nouncement of pUblic hearings was published In the Federal Register on August 7, 1987; page 29445. The public was provided a 90-<lay com- ment period on the Draft RMP/EIS. Nsws releases also provided Information con- cerning the Draft RMP/EIS and the public hear- Ings which were held In Hotchkiss, Colorado, on September22, 1987; In Lakewood, Colorado, On Septembsr 24, 1987; and In Montrose, Colorado, on Ssptembsr 29, 1987. Fifty-one (51) psrsons testified at the public hearings. Ons hundred and seventy-three (173) persons, groups, or agencies submitted written comments. Both comments and responses were published In the Proposed RMP/Flnal EIS. Notice of availability of the Proposed RMP IFlnal EIS was published In the Federal Register on Oc- tober 7, 1988; page 39538. This notice an- nounced a 30-<lay protest period. No protests were received. 6
