~~.l...~
~~~~
flood control, recreation, and fish and wildlife. Ruedi Reservoir is
filled during the high spring runoff and maintained near full until
October. Ruedi Reservoir space is allocated to replacement of Project
water, western slope 'use, and an inactive pool of 1,089 acre-feet.
The primary purpose of Ruedi Reservoir ia to furnish, to the extent
of its capacity, the water required for the protection of western
Colorado water users. Studiea to determine this requirement are in
progress.
Operation of Ruedi Reaervoir as planned will reduce and stabilize the
streamflow of the Fryingpan River downatream of the dam. The controlled
year-round flowa will enable improvement of trout spawning habitat
and provide better conditions for fishing in the early months of the
fiahing season. Under the operation plan, the water level in Ruedi
Reservoir will be well above the dead-storage pool during the aummer
recreatio~ season. Therefore, the water level during the summer, in
all but exceptionally dry years, will have a water surface area of
about 925 acres. During this period, the water elevation will fluc-
tuate about 7 feet. The method of operation, which maintains a
sufficiently high water aurface in the reservoir without an explicit
recreation pool, provides appreciable water-oriented recreational
opportunities.
XI-467
.
.
.
.
