Colorado River Recovery Program
Annual Report-Project 9f

V. Relationship to RlPRAP:

Section 2.6:
VI. Increase public awareness and support for the endangered fishes and the recovery
program.

General support Action Plan:
m. Reduce negative impacts of nOlUlative fishes and sportfish management
activities.
m.A.2. Assess options to reduce negative impacts of problem species and assess
regulations and options to reduce negative impacts on native fishes from
nOlUlative sportfish.

VI. Accomplishment of FY 97 objectives and tasks:

1. By December 1, 1996, develop a draft landowner incentive package that outline
sportfishery and native fish conservation options available for participating
landowners.

Such an incentive packnge must be broad-based in its development so that it can
be applied statewide. This is a complex task that seeks to bring consistency and
accuracy to a menu of options open to private landowners that government agencies
are soliciting to participate in recovery or conservation programs. It also involves
multiple agencies and staff contacts concerning criteria and application protocols.
It also requires a funding commitment from CDOW to make necessary funding (or
match) available as needed for specific landowner agreements as they are
developed. CDOW has been able to identify draft criteria for landowner
agreements within the Recovery Program, but did not provide base funding for an
incentive program infidcal year 1997-1998.

2. By January 1, 1997, develop and distribute fact sheet in brochure form that
identifies Division long range plan strategy and policies as they relate to
sportfishery and conservation management statewide and in the Yampa Valley.

Done. See attached fact sheet.

3. By January 1, 1997, initiate communication process with Yampa River
Management Coalition to establish infonnation and feedback link with local
communities in Routt and Moffatt counties. Meet with this group to present
fisheries management proposals for Yampa River system, including sportfishery,

2
